1 McLaren protégé and talented British promise Lewis Hamilton, who won the GP2 title in 2006, has been handed the 2007 F1 seat alongside two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso. Hamilton, likely the only rookie to race in 2007, has also made the news as the first black driver in F1 racing (in some cultures around the World, however, his light brown complexion would hardly get him referred to as black, it may be worth noting).
2 Robert Kubica replaced a reportedly physically unfit Jacques Villeneuve, in the Hungaroring, 2006, never to leave the Team. He has actually become Poland's sensation, and has more than lived up to the expectations at home. He has not only done a very good job at BMW, but also conquered his first podium with just a few races under his belt.
3 After driving for the Benetton Team (from mid 1977 to 2000), Alexander Wurz spent many years in testing and reserve roles (2001-2005 at McLaren, and in 2006 at Williams). During this time, while Juan Pablo Montoya injured (April 2005), Wurz actually drove the McLaren car in the San Marino Grand Prix, taking the final flag in fourth place, but climbing to third, as the then BAR-Honda team were disqualified. Alexander Wurz is now back in a racing seat for a full season, at Williams, partnering Nico Rosberg in the team.
