See the F1 Grand Prix Calendar page for relevant observations regarding on-going World Cup (soccer) matches and this F1 Grand Prix.
Giancarlo Fisichella Fisichella jumped start, and so was given a drive-through penalty, which dropped him from 3rd to 5th, on lap 7.
Nico Rosberg did not make it beyond the second lap, taken out by Juan Pablo Montoya's unfortunate overtaking attempt, at the chicane at the back of the circuit. Rosberg was spun across the track and into the wall, whereas Montoya managed to head for the pits.
But Juan Pablo Montoya's quote of accidents had not yet been over, the Colombian hitting the wall at the last corner, on lap 14, and obviously then retiring.
Ralf Schumacher was given a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane, on an unlucky day for the German, as he also had two spins, during the GP!
All cars from P-6 (included) down were lapped. Even if not the most exciting of races, Canada luckily offered an eventful Grand Prix–in 'compensation,' perhaps, for the previous hardly exciting race in England...
