- Two sessions, one on Friday, the other on Saturday, from 13:00 to 14:00 (local time). Each driver is granted one single solo lap per session, i.e., one driver at a time.
- The order for the Friday qualifying session will be determined by the number of points that each driver has earned in the Championship thus far. (In Australia, the order to be followed will be given by the drivers' final postions in the Championship.) The driver in the lead will start the session, followed by the one placed second, and so forth.
- The order for the Saturday qualifying session will emerge from the times obtained in the Friday qualifying session, as follows: the driver obtaining the fastest time on Friday will be the last on track, the driver scoring the second fastest time will go out next-to-last, and so on.
- Note: Friday's times are reported not to count for the grid, their relevance being in determining the qualifying order for the Saturday session.
- Note: Despite the changes, the 107% rule has been retained and is to function precisely the same way as before -- at least in principle (please see related comments at In- or deflation?).
- Note: The practice schedule will remain Friday, from 11:00 to 12:00, and Saturday, from 09:00 to 09:45 and from 10:15 to 11:00, whereas the qualifying sessions will be from 13:00 to 14:00 on both days.
