This is FIFA's current official Club World Championship, which is replacing, from 2005 onwards, the World tournament known as Toyota Cup. The official name of the tournament is FIFA Club World Championship TOYOTA Cup Japan 2005, as Toyota Motors' sponsorship has been maintained.
The tournament, now comprising six Champion teams (see below), one from each of FIFA's affiliated Confederations, was held in Tokyo, Japan, from 11 to 18 December 2005, offering a USD 15 million prize money to the Champion, in addition, of course, to a Trophy which was created especially for this tournament.

The tournament format used in 2005, which FIFA considers the ideal, is sketched below. Please note that, both São Paulo and Liverpool, as UEFA and CONMEBOL Champions, were automatically qualified for the Semi-Final Matches, each of these two clubs, thus, playing a winning club that emerged from the First Round Matches.
If this should mean anything in the context of the coming World Cup, the club from Costa Rica, Saprissa, managed third in the tournament! Out of the native countries of the clubs involved, it is also interesting to note that only Egypt will not be contesting the coming World Cup.
Please see the Championship format and match results below:
